FAQ’s

Q.  What is in ThermaPoint™?
A.  ThermaPoint™ is a blend of liquid calcium chloride brine and a proprietary organic material.

Q.  What is the freeze point/working temperature of ThermaPoint™?
A.  The target temperature of ThermaPoint™ is -32
°F, much lower than that of many other ice control agents.

Q.  Is ThermaPoint™ corrosive?
A.  When tested to PNS specs, ThermaPoint™ had a corrosion rate of a low 4.3, just above distilled water
at 0 and well below rock salt at 100.  ThermaPoint’s corrosion rate was also significantly lower than most
other ice control agents on the approved PNS list.

Q.  What makes ThermaPoint™ work?
A.  Because it is a calcium chloride-based product, ThermaPoint™ has exothermic properties.  In other
words, it creates heat as it works.  It also begins working immediately, unlike rock salt.

Q.  How much ThermaPoint™ do I need?
A.  As an anti-ice agent, typically 30-40 gallons per lane mile.  When used for pre-wetting, 8 to 12 gallons
per ton.  Usage will vary according to weather conditions, traffic flow, your own program, etc.

Q.  How does calcium chloride brine work for dust control?
A.  Calcium chloride is hygroscopic, which means it has the ability to draw moisture from the surrounding
environment to keep the gravel fines bound together and compacted.  Unlike water, calcium chloride
brine resists evaporation so it has a long working time.

Q.  Is calcium chloride brine safe for the environment?
A.  Yes, our product is a non-hazardous, natural mineral well brine.

Q.  How much do I need for dust control?
A.  We use 1000-3000 gallons per mile depending on the type of application the customer desires.

Q.  How does calcium chloride brine compare to 35-38% calcium chloride?
A.  Both products share many of the same properties.  The 35-38% is heavier in solids and will last a little
longer, however, our product is much less expensive so you can do two and sometimes three applica-
tions for the same cost as one application of 35-38% calcium chloride.

Q.  Can calcium chloride brine be used for arenas?
A.  Yes, our product is safe and will not harm pets and livestock.

Q.  When is the best time to apply the product for dust control?
A.  After a grading and while there is some moisture in the road.  A light rain is fine, but applications just
before, during or immediately after a heavy rain should be avoided.

Q.  How often will I need to apply calcium chloride brine to achieve an effective dust control program?
A.  Our product will last an average of 4 to 6 weeks as long as there is moisture.  Extreme dry conditions
and excessive wet conditions will affect the longevity of the product.  Most of our customers do two to
three applications for a dust free summer.
